Ugandan languages
- LugandaLuganda, the language of the Baganda, is the most widely spoken Ugandan language in Kampala and the Central Region and is used daily in business and media.
- RunyankoleRunyankole is spoken in Ankole, around Mbarara, Bushenyi and Ntungamo, and is closely related to Rukiga.
- RukigaRukiga is spoken in Kigezi, around Kabale, Rukungiri and Kisoro, in south-western Uganda.

- AcholiAcholi (Luo) is spoken in Gulu, Kitgum, Pader and across northern Uganda and is essential for many NGO and community programmes.
- LangoLango (Leb Lango) is spoken in Lira, Apac, Dokolo and the wider Lango sub-region.
- AtesoAteso is spoken in Soroti, Kumi, Serere and the Teso sub-region of eastern Uganda, as well as in western Kenya.
- LugbaraLugbara is spoken in Arua and the West Nile sub-region, near the DR Congo and South Sudan borders.
- RunyoroRunyoro is spoken in Bunyoro, around Hoima and Masindi, an area of growing importance for the oil and gas sector.
- RutooroRutooro is spoken in Tooro, around Fort Portal and Kyenjojo in western Uganda.
- LumasabaLumasaba (Lugisu) is spoken in Mbale and the Mount Elgon area of eastern Uganda.
- NgakarimojongNgakarimojong is spoken in Karamoja, around Moroto, Kotido and Napak, where development projects rely on skilled interpreters.

- SwahiliSwahili is Uganda's second official language and the lingua franca of the East African Community, used across Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi and the DR Congo.
- KinyarwandaKinyarwanda is spoken in Rwanda and by communities in south-western Uganda; Rufumbira, spoken around Kisoro, is closely related.
